The event ran in semi-parallel within the programme of the annual European Cultural Heritage Summit 2022, organised by Europa Nostra from 25-27 September in partnership with its European and Czech partners.
Theme
Heritage and Conflict
The session discusses the impact of war on heritage with a special focus on Ukrainian heritage. It aims to bring forward ways of rescuing and preserving heritage in conflict situations and the role of International organisations in the process, before, during and after the conflict.
Heritage and Inclusion

Heritage plays an increasingly important role in the development of the contemporary city. How does your city facilitate its past for the community? What are the advantages of re-development compared to new construction? These questions and more will be covered during this seminar.
Contested Heritage
Colonizing powers had always a strong voice in creating narratives. Even today, museums tell stories of colonial glory rather than colonized downtrodden realities. Colonial heritage in the form of paintings, texts, and artifacts, is displayed and used to refurbish neo-colonial narratives of mighty entrepreneurs, strong captains, and even humanist politicians. In this session, the transatlantic slave trade, as well as the material culture produced by and about enslaved Africans in Dutch Brazil is used as a case study to stimulate discussion around the contested (and too often overlooked) colonial heritage of museums in the contemporaneity.
Heritage and Personal Development
The session will focus on ways to go beyond the conventional methods of education in heritage studies. It aims at exploring different skills needed by heritage professionals today and discusses the present issues in establishing oneself in the field.
Speakers
Heritage and conflict: Elisabeth Korinth: Vice President, Blue Shield Germany & Anastasiia Putilina: Young heritage professional from Ukraine and a master studies candidate of World Heritage Studies in Germany.
Heritage and inclusion: Jean-Paul Corten: Programme Leader of Urban Heritage Strategies
Contested heritage: Carolina Monteiro MA: PhD candidate at Leiden University (NL), part of the ERC Project “BRASILIAE. Indigenous Knowledge in the Making of Science: Historia Naturalis Brasiliae (1648).”
Heritage and personal development:  Dr. Bert Ludwig: Director of European Heritage Volunteers, Conservation Architect from Germany Marija Konjević Tourism Management and young Cultural Heritage professional

It aims to innovate following the work done in the previous meetings in Girona (2018) and Genoa (2019). This meeting is open to ESACH's members and non members. We want this to be a place for the exchange of knowledges and ideas about our European heritage, but also we hope this event serve for thinking about sustainable ways to manage it, because we are the future of Europe and that should be our commitment.

For that purpose, this meeting hosted by the Complutense University of Madrid wants to contribute to the development of ideas and the sense of responsibility of the whole society in the fulfilment of the UN SDGs. In fact, 100% of the energy consumed by this university comes from renewable sources. We want the 2030 Agenda to be present in some way in the presentations we will hear and in the meeting organization itself. Our Cultural Heritage has much to contribute in the fight against the climatic emergency, something that it was well reflected in the development of the COP25 Madrid-Chile 2019.

ESACH Meeting 2021 Madrid is conceived to give voice to many young participants and for that we launch a Call for Proposals for the election of 14 speakers for presentations and the novelty of the Call for Posters, for another 8 people. In addition, we will invite professionals with a long career, also professional and social associations to participate in specific presentations and discussion tables. ESACH MEETING 2021

Where: Madrid, Spain
Date: Spring 2021
Theme: Our common past, our future
details
The 3rd ESACH Meeting "Our common past, our future", is organised by ESACH and the MA Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century: Management and Research (ESACH Madrid). It will be hosted by the Complutense University of Madrid and open to both members and non-members.
The meeting was meant to be in June 2020. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it was postponed to 2021.

Theme
The meeting aims to continue the work carried out in previous meetings in Girona (2018) and Genova (2019) by creating a place for the exchange of knowledge and ideas about cultural heritage. In 2021, the emphasis will be on sustainable management strategies, the 2030 Agenda and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. We believe that cultural heritage has much to contribute in the fight against the climatic emergency, as reflected in the development of the COP25 Madrid-Chile 2019.
speakers
The Meeting will consist of 14 presentations and eight poster presentations, as well as a practical workshop on Cultural Heritage Management and visits to cultural sites throughout Madrid. In addition, we will invite heritage experts, professional and community associations to participate in specific presentations and discussion tables.
The list of speakers will be updated closer to the date.
